Women pilots make up less than 5.0% of commercial airline pilots in the U.S. in 2022. Women of Color comprise less than 12% of all female pilots - 6.1% were Hispanic or Latina, 3.9% were Black, and 1.5 % were Asian in 2021.
While the numbers are growing, it is still a pitiful percentage. First Officer Anh K. Ho walked to the beat of her own spunky and sassy drum. Anh loved to explore the world, from the busy streets of South Korea to the emerald Isles of Ireland, from the tulips of Amsterdam to the wonders of South America. As the first in her family to go to college, it also came as no surprise when she became a commercial pilot. With no pilots in her family or in her network, it was extremely difficult to navigate these barriers to entry.
While working as a flight attendant, she earned her private and commercial license. Unfortunately on May 5, 2017 Anh died in an accident at Yeager Airport (KCRW) before she became an airline pilot.
Anh left not just an imprint, but everlasting joy in the hearts of those she met, loved, and befriended. Through this endowment, we seek to support women to break barriers and pursue their dreams of flying for a U.S. - based commercial airline.
In honor of First Officer Anh K. Ho, the mission is to help enable women (and especially women of color) to pursue their private and commercial pilots licenses and support other women-led ventures in aviation.
This is a rolling application for up to $18,000 for each aspiring female U.S.-based commercial airline pilot. The goal is to fully fund the completion of your private license, which is one of your first barriers to entry into this profession.
We will start reviewing the applications starting on March 9th, 2024. This year's application deadline is Sunday, May 5th at 11:59pm EDT. Best of luck!
